Occupational health care. Medical surveillance of workers in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Medical surveillance is important for the employer in order to prevent the risk of accidents at work caused by the health of the worker, prevent occupational diseases and work-related illnesses.
Medical surveillance is a prophylactic medical surveillance of workers, together with the necessary analyses and examinations. As a result of the medical surveillance, the occupational health physician shall decide on the suitability of the employee to the work. Occupational health physician gives recommendations and advice to the employee on how to better maintain his / her health and to reduce health risks. The occupational health physician will also advise the employer on the risk reduction measures to be implemented in the work environment for each individual worker.
The occupational health care services we provide include appointments to occupational health physician with the necessary analyses and examinations, as well as health certificates. We also offer workplace ergonomics.
Occupational health care service includes:
- reviewing the risk analysis
- analyses and examinations according to the risk factors
- occupational health physician`s appointment
- occupational health physician`s decision on suitability to work with recommendations and suggestions for changes in work environment or work organization
Depending on the hazards of the work environment, your physician will need different information about Your state of health to perform the examination. Most of the necessary analyses and research can be done on site at our clinic.
The medical surveillance usually includes the following examinations and analyses.
- Vision and eye control with determination of refraction by the optometrist.
- Cardiac examination.
- Determination of blood sugar.
- Hearing control.
- Pulmonary control.
- General therapeutic and neurological control, musculoskeletal control.
When do you need to do analysis and research?
An optometrist performs a vision check to those who have at least 50% of their time working with a monitor. The inspection determines whether the employee needs glasses or other vision correcting tools to work with computer.
For those workers who work during the night, the medical surveillance of workers should include an electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood glucose analysis. The night workers must have a normal blood pressure. Night work is working between 22.00 and 06.00. A night worker is defined as a person with regular working hours of at least three hours during night or if this constitutes at least one third of the annual working time of the person.
Which workers have noise at work?
Continuously high noise levels at work can damage a person’s hearing. There is a risk of hearing damage if the noise level is higher than 80 dB(A). The daily noise exposure of the worker shall not exceed 85 dB(A) in an eight-hour working day. If the noise exposure level is 85 dB(A) or above, the use of hearing protectors is obligatory.
Health examination of workers exposured to noise must include hearing examination (audiometry). It is important for the employer to record the employee’s hearing loss when starting work, so that it would be clear whether hearing loss has occurred previously or in the workplace.
For workers exposed to chemicals and dust, a pulmonary function test is required using PEF meter or spirography. Blood tests to determine liver function are also required (ASAT, ALAT).
